Nolan Buirley Drives In 4 To Lead Big Walnut Varsity Eagles Past Westerville South Varsity Wildcats

Nolan Buirley drove in four runs on one hit to lead Big Walnut Varsity Eagles past Westerville South Varsity Wildcats 12-9 on Monday. In the eighth inning, Buirley hit a grand slam to center field.

Big Walnut Varsity Eagles were the first to get on the board in the first when Ethan Baker grounded out, scoring one run.

Big Walnut Varsity Eagles added one run in the second. Tyson Barton singled down the left field line on a full count, making the score 2-0.

Westerville South Varsity Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to an error, and a hit by a pitch.

Westerville South Varsity Wildcats captured the lead, 5-2, in the bottom of the fourth after Big Walnut Varsity Eagles dropped a third strike, Nate Bury-Hays doubled to left field, and Ethan Cleaver singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Big Walnut Varsity Eagles tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a double by Jake Neff, and a ground out by Trey Kaylor.

Big Walnut Varsity Eagles jumped back into the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Baker walked, and Kaylor was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.

Brooks Hibbitt walked, which helped Westerville South Varsity Wildcats tie the game at seven in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, Big Walnut Varsity Eagles broke up the tie when Kaylor drew a walk, scoring one run. Then a grand slam to center field by Buirley followed to extend the lead to 12-7.

Buirley earned the win for Big Walnut Varsity Eagles. The righty gave up two hits and one run over one inning, striking out three and walking one. Brayden Keplar took the loss for Westerville South Varsity Wildcats. The pitcher went three innings, giving up seven runs on four hits, striking out three and walking five. Braylon Robertson started on the hill for Big Walnut Varsity Eagles. The lefty gave up six hits and five runs (three earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking none. Theo Montemarano began the game for Westerville South Varsity Wildcats. The starter gave up five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Chase Huffman, Owen Horba, Jack Rigg, and Sam Stewart each appeared in relief for Big Walnut Varsity Eagles.

Big Walnut Varsity Eagles accumulated nine hits in the game. Number seven hitter, Brady Taylor, showed the depth of Big Walnut Varsity Eagles's lineup, by leading them with three hits in five at bats.
