Senior Max Lenz is a dynamic leader at Big Walnut High School and a key member of the Big Walnut Football and Wrestling teams.
I have witnessed Max competing since he was in seventh grade. As Coach Renner states below, you would not know Max is a fierce competitor on the playing surface by the way he handles himself when not competing. He simply has a way about him that makes you relaxed when talking to him. This is a difficult quality to find in someone and will bode him well in the armed forces. I asked Max a couple of weeks ago jokingly if we could have fifth year of eligibility. He just laughed but he knows that we selfishly would love to keep Max around forever.
Max qualified for the OHSAA State Wrestling Tournament this past season. Recently, OHSAA canceled with winter season tournaments to protect those in attendance from COVID-19. I could not imagine how devastating this news was for Max. He had been working toward this goal since he was in youth wrestling.
It is important we take the time to recognize Max for his accomplishments. The statement below is from his wrestling coaches Aaron Renner and Jack Reall.
Mr. Shelton – Athletic Director
“Max had an injury setback on the 2nd weekend of the season and within five weeks he was back on the mat fighting through the injury. Max led his team to an OCC championship and earned himself a trip to the state tournament by placing 3rd at the district tournament at Hilliard Darby.
