Golden Eagle Athletes(7-12), Parents and Coaches:
Gov. DeWine issued an executive order closing K-12 schools from Tuesday, March 16, 2020, through Sunday, April 5, 2020. All Big Walnut High School/Middle School athletic practices, events, team functions, banquets, award ceremonies, weight room training, open gyms are canceled beginning Friday, March 13, 2020, through Sunday, April 5, 2020.
During Governor DeWine’s mandated closure of buildings, we will not be allowing any internal or external groups to use our facilities. We will be using the time to disinfect our buildings and need to keep people out of the facilities for this to occur. We will not be rescheduling any events for outside groups during the spring; if we are back in school, we will need those dates and spaces for makeup events for our students.
Based on Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health’s recent recommendations, we discourage the use of the outside athletic facilities during school closures and will not be using them in any school capacity.
OHSAA provided an update on Friday, March 13, 2020, stating scrimmages and games will return to play on Saturday, April 11, 2020.
April 6. 2020 through April 10, 2020, will be practice time to prepare the student-athletes for competition.
This is the last thing we wanted for our student-athletes. Our student-athletes train year-round to prepare for their seasons and for something like this to happen is devasting to all involved. We will continue to support educational-based athletics and the positive results from participating on a school sports team.
Golden Eagle Nation is “Strong” there is nothing we will not fight through. We will get through this. Our head coaches and Coach Wetzel will be sending home workout plans over the next few days. We will need our student-athletes to be prepared.
Thank you for your understanding.
